Géza Xeravits (1971-2019)

We were deeply saddened to learn that our friend and colleague Géza Xeravits passed away on September 27. Géza was a Hungarian scholar and one of the most important European specialists in Second Temple Judaism, known especially for his scholarship on Qumran and the OT Apocrypha. He led the rebirth of Biblical Studies in Hungary, making Budapest the center of many important conferences in the field, including the 2010 Enoch Graduate Seminar that he chaired with Ida Froehlich. We all have good memories of him as a gracious host, a distinguished scholar, a tireless promoter of international events, and a lovely human being. Death is unjust to take a person so young and active. It is a devastating loss for our field and he will be greatly missed. May his memory be a blessing.
