9. ENOCH GRADUATE SEMINAR – MONTREAL

The Ninth Enoch Graduate Seminar will be held on 20-22 June 2024 in Montréal, hosted by Concordia University Montréal and McGill University. The seminar will be chaired by Lorenzo DiTommaso (Concordia), Gerbern Oegema (McGill), and Jackie Wyse-Rhodes (Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary). Joshua Scott (Augsburg University) will serve as Secretary. 

The Enoch Graduate Seminar is an international convening whose goal is to share innovative research ideas in a collegial environment. We welcome doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers working in the fields of Hebrew Bible, Pseudepigrapha, Apocrypha, Qumran Scrolls, New Testament, Early Christianity, Classics, Early Islam, and Rabbinic literature to present their papers and participate in general discussion. 

Papers are pre-circulated to Seminar participants one week before the Seminar opens. Participants are expected to read papers before the sessions to maximize critical dialogue and conversational engagement. Sessions feature two or three participants, each of whom briefly summarizes their paper before the floor is opened to questions and table-ronde dialogue. Multiple plenary sessions thus allow presenters to share their research and receive constructive and supportive feedback.

The 2024 Enoch Seminar takes place at the end of the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies at McGill University (June 17-19), and partially overlaps a two-day Colloquium on “Interpreting the Septuagint in its Greco-Roman Context” (June 19-20). This will allow those interested to extend their stay and participate in these events as well.

Proposals for papers (500-1,000 words) must be submitted to the event Secretary, Dr. Joshua Scott (scottjos@umich.edu), by 31 January 2024. Completed papers (maximum 6,000 words, not including notes) are due 30 April 2024 for review by the seminar committee.
