The 84th Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis (SBL) was held at the Union Theological Seminary (New York, NY; December 28-30, 1948), in conjunction with the American Schools of Oriental Research and the National Association of Biblical Instructors. About 300 scholars were in attendance.

The first discussion of the Dead Sea Scrolls was introduced in this meeting by Millar Burrows, William H. Brownlee, and John C. Trever.
